Red Coral Goby (Gobiodon quinquestrigatus)
The Redcoral goby (Gobiodon quinquestrigatus) is a small, reef-dwelling fish native to the Indo-Pacific.
It has a compact body with a striking reddish coloration and five distinct blue lines running along its head and body.
This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain coral species, often seeking shelter within branching corals like Acropora.
It reaches a maximum size of 5 cm (2 inches).
Aquarium Care:
- Tank Size: Minimum 10–20 gallons
- Water Parameters: Temperature 24–27°C (75–81°F), pH 8.1–8.4, salinity 1.020–1.025
- Diet: Carnivorous – eats small meaty foods like copepods, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp
- Temperament: Generally peaceful, but may be territorial toward other gobies
- Reef Compatibility: Reef-safe; often seen living within corals
- Special Considerations: Requires branching corals or rock structures for shelter
The Red coral goby is an excellent choice for nano and reef aquariums, adding both personality and color. It thrives in well-established tanks with ample hiding spots and a steady food supply.
